Doing Calvi on a budget
The headline sights cost nothing, so your money goes on food and a bed. Skip the harbour-front restaurants where you pay for the view and eat one street back, or shop the morning market and picnic on the beach. Fill a water bottle before you set off, since a walk up to Notre-Dame-de-la-Serra and back can take a couple of hours.
Getting around and where to stay
Calvi is small and walkable, and the beach, the Marina, and the Genoese Citadel are all within a few minutes of each other on foot. The little coastal train that runs along the Balagne shore is a cheap way to reach nearby beaches and villages without renting a car.
